Everything else on the guitar is as expected with a comfy strap, well placed and clicky strum button and of course the all awesome whammy bar. When you first see this you might think what the hell is going on, but you will realise that Guitar Hero tries to change things up, and the muscle memory you once had will be of little use to you now. While previously there were 5 colourful fret buttons lined up next to each other, there are now 6, not-so-colourful, buttons placed in two rows with three buttons each. Guitar Hero Live is the first game in ages to hit the plastic instrument world and the first, and most noticeable thing when you unpack your guitar, is the change in the controls. Guitar Hero Live tries to start a revolution of the genre, and at the very least some kind of evolution, but does it manage this, or is it a smashed guitar too far? There’s something different, but don’t Fret it It caused lots of pain but I understood the love everyone had for the game.įast forward to 2015 and after years of absence the music rhythm genre makes a comeback with a new Guitar Hero. It wasn’t long until medium became the new easy and I was on to Hard and Expert difficulties. It was fine though, the track list was so engaging and the need to get better so encouraging that I persisted. Bumped it up to medium and had to learn to get used to the extra key and faster pace. A bit of practice and lots of frustration later and I had the hang of it, on easy. And then I must strum at the same time? Crazy. Those 5 fret buttons confused the hell out of me and I was only using, at most, three of them. I couldn’t quite understand how people played this game. I took home my plastic guitar, put in the game, set it to easy level and fumbled my way through. People had told me it was addictive and lots of fun, I wasn’t sure but I had to try it. I remember getting it for the first time back on Xbox 360. With the Beatles Revolution playing in my head I think back to how far the Guitar Hero series has come. You say you want a revolution, well you know, we all want to change the world.

Those numbers make it affordable, and few vehicles boast so much interior flexibility. The test vehicle, a 4WD EX model came in at just over $21,000. The Honda Element rolling dorm room starts at just over $16,000 for a front-wheel-drive DX model. The interior had a couple of rattles, which does not inspire confidence, the solution is to turn up the volume on the stereo.īut, as any home buyer or mobile base camp buyer will tell you, new construction always comes with problems. The doors have a tinny sound, and several plastic trim bits came off and had to be reattached. The disappointing thing about the Element is its build. There’s even an audio input for your MP3 player to hook into the AM/FM/CD audio system. Honda has done an expert job of making inexpensive materials look funky and modern. The dash is as expressive in its design as the rest of the vehicle. There are plenty of hooks, storage bins and other handy features to make the Element an easy place to spend time. But since they’ll be folded most of the time, that may not matter. Rear seats are mounted too low for any kind of real comfort. The front seats are firm, yet provide adequate comfort. Seat comfort is good up front, but the seating position is similar to that of a Winnebago – the driver sits far back from the upright windshield. Handling is ordinary, with plenty of body lean in corners and some occasional lost traction, more a function of the tires than the four-wheel-drive system. The test vehicle, a four-wheel-drive EX, returned 18 mpg in mixed use. A four-speed automatic transmission is available with either front or four-wheel-drive. A five-speed-manual is available on 4WD models. While there’s only one engine offered, there’s a choice of transmissions. This m obile dorm room is also noisy when the engine revs and road surface turns rough. But, loaded with life-style gear, it could end up being slow. There’s 160 horsepower on tap, adequate to move this vehicle. The 2.4-liter dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder, which is used in the base Honda Accord and the Honda CRV, is a model of power and efficiency. Obviously, Honda got the sleeping part nailed down.īut when it’s time to have friends over to your mobile base camp for dinner, getting to the drive-thru is obviously important. So, Honda designed the vehicle to appeal to 22-year-old buyers who like to live in their cars. But both of those vehicles are heavily favored by women, not men. Of course, that would be a natural since the Element uses the same mechanicals as the Civic and CRV crossover sport-utility vehicle. Of course, when it comes time for that epic road trip, the Element will do all that you want it to with appliance-like reliability. You won’t have to worry about getting the seats wet, because they’re covered in a waterproof fabric. Instead, the floor of the Element is covered in what Honda calls a “thermoplastic olefin topcoat.” This rubbery, grippy surface is scratch resistant and perfect for hosing down. You don’t even have to worry about getting the carpet dirty, because there is no carpet. The rear seats can fold away to create a large, open interior for hauling a weekend’s worth of gear. The four seats fold individually, so half the interior can hold your muddy bike, wet kayak or muddy boots while the other half of your mobile base camp serves as a Motel 6 on wheels. The interior is long enough to allow a six-footer to sleep with the hatch closed. And you can keep the elements from raining into your Element. Thoughtfully, Honda also provided a sunroof over the rear cargo area, so that as you lie on your lumpy bed in your mobile base camp, you can gaze at the stars. So the Element’s seats fold into a somewhat flat, lumpy bed. That’s why Honda designed “a vehicle to haul all their stuff and serve as their mobile dorm room or base camp,” according Tom Elliot, executive vice president of American Honda North America. This means having a place to crash is a constant thought. Since Gen Ys surf, snowboard, mountain bike, hike, kayak and play hockey, they don’t work much. Specifically, the Element is aimed at Gen Y active buyers, who Honda believes spend much of their time surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and playing hockey. (That’s market-speak for those born between 19.) The Element is aimed at members of Generation Y. Of course, Honda would tell you that the Honda Element isn’t aimed at older buyers who like attractive cars. Few vehicles I have ever driven have resulted in so many people coming up to me, faces looking like they had just swallowed thumbtacks, belching out original phrases like, “that is sooo ugly.” Serving select locations in Alaska including JBER, Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Clear Space Force Station. My friends had a lot to say on the subject. I decided to open up the conversation by asking people about their experiences with hyperfocus and what it felt like to them. I’m lucky enough to have several friends who understand the importance of mental health and actively work to end stigmas and normalize talking about mental illness, and my friends and I have openly discussed a wide variety of mental health topics, but for some reason, hyperfocus has never really been one of them. I wondered: If hyperfocus is so common, why is this the first time my friend and I are talking about our experiences with it? We aren’t exactly shy when it comes to talking about mental illness – my friend is even a graduate student in psychology. You might lose track of time, or forget about chores, deadlines, and other obligations because you are so focused on this one thing. It’s a state of intense, single-minded concentration on one particular thing, to the point that you might become oblivious to everything else around you. The phenomenon is called hyperfocus, and it’s pretty common among HSPs, people on the autism spectrum, and people with ADD/ADHD, OCD, and bipolar disorder. I had experienced it many times before but never really talked about it or put a name to it. She asked me if I’d ever experienced anything like that before.Īs an HSP with ADD and anxiety, I was no stranger to what my friend was describing. She was spending quite a bit of her free time watching videos of the current tour and reading up on the actors in the cast, and was finding it difficult to pull herself away from it when she had to divert her attention to something else. She’d recently become interested in the Broadway musical “Pippin,” and it was becoming something of an obsession to her. She described to me an interesting experience she was having and wondered if I might be able to relate to it. Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine who, like me, is a highly sensitive person (HSP).
